MySQL Workbench SQL Editor does not start on Windows

less than 1 minute read

I experienced a strange issue when freshly installed MySQL Workbench has troubles starting the SQL Editor on Windows Server 2008 R2. When I click on an existing connection, SQL editor startup splash appears and hides, after that nothing happens.

There are a few threads on different forums describing the same behaviour but not offering any solution.

I figured out that despite the MySQL installation pack requires VC++ 2010 x86 runtime (and installs in on the way), SQL Editor itself requires VC++ 2010 x64 runtime. When I installed it, SQL Editor started to work.
